What Does the Squiggle Art on Yume Nikke Mean

Why we sketch, and why you should brand it a requirement in your design process.

The squiggle is an nether-appreciated element in design. Call it what you desire (a line, a stroke, a sketch), I notice that too many designers jump directly into visual blueprint without thinking commencement. In our design process, the squiggle is representative of that thinking — it's the outset and ofttimes most important footstep in the design procedure. It symbolizes deep thought, iteration, communication, and validation.

Taking a step back, I don't profess to knowing the best practices and processes to creating groovy design. I'k not the greatest designer I know, simply I have worked with many great designers both internally at Propeller Labs and externally with our partners and clients. That said, I only really know what has worked for our company and our clients and I can confidently say sketching first results in ameliorate products ( and that's 100% of the time).

Ok, some context. I recently invitee lectured the "Sketching for User Experience" portion of Full general Assembly'due south User Experience Design Immersive. Clearly, the focus was sketching, but my goal was to come up with means to emphasize its importance.

When I received the standard sketch deck from the General Assembly moderators, I was given the liberty to read through the slides, amend, and add components that I thought were the most relevant to aspiring our UX designers.

Iteration is not perfection, so don't over-pattern too early. Sketch to get your ideas on paper, throw out the bad ones, and build on the expert ones.

We're all visual creatures and have communicated through pictures for millennia. A simple squiggle can communicate an idea quickly and finer. It strips away the ambiguity that a text description might produce and cuts out all the bullshit early on.
